  Jungle Mangal - October 1987

By:  Inam ul Haq, Kit No. 20xx, IH

In October 1987, the civil defence training was arranged in beautiful place named Jungle Mangal in Manshera.

The students of 3rd and 4th year from different colleges and universities of all the four provinces participated in this training. Against those students, our college sent six young and dashing cadets. Among them four cadets Inam ul Haq (Group leader), Umar Farooq Marwat, Jamal Azeem and Saleem Bacha were from first year while the remaining two cadets Waleed Khan and M. Sohail were from 10th Class.

On 10th October, after the morning prayer our team including six cadets and one of our NCO’s left college for Manshera. As mentioned above this was a scouting training, therefore we decided to solve all the problems and hardships ourselves. Our morale was very high. We reached Manshera after a very tough and tiring journey. There we were received by the Civil Defence reception committee with great respect. We were driven to Jungle Mangal which was 19 km away from Manshera by special buses The road was very dangerous but our journey was too much exciting due to the charming scenery of the surroundings and good company of other students living in different places of Pakistan.

After the journey of one hour we entered the gate of Jungle Mangal, which was selected as a special site for this useful training.

On reaching the spot we were given the necessary instructions and some special tools were provided for tent pitching and general use. We selected a unique and beautiful spot for out tent. We pitched our tent in a short time to show that we were cadets. Then we untied our light bags and decorated all the necessary things for daily use in our tent. After some time, the incharge of the Civil Defence training came, inspected our tents and allowed us to go for dinner. The dinner was arranged in a simple but clean dining hall.

On the first day of our scouting training we could not do anything because of heavy rain and snow-fall. We spent the 2nd and 3rd day according to the routine program. We had to attend four classes in the morning and a practical class in the evening. All the subject teachers and the incharge of Civil Defence training appreciated our discipline in the camp very much. Our group was given special priority for being cadets but we did not take unfair benefits of their special favour.

On 14th September, after having our breakfast we were alarmed to prepare ourselves for a long walk in green mountains. We walked for about 5 km towards Muzaffarabad. The high and green trees on both sided of road were waving. It seemed as if they wanted to tell us about their glorious and fascinating past. Then we returned to our camp discovering new routes and channels. Our college’s best photographer, Umar made the best of this walk and made ideal snaps of the surroundings and beautiful scenes.

A camp-fire was also arranged on that evening. All the members of our group participated in it and tried their best to bring a good name to our college.

The next day was the day of our departure to cadet college. The results of all competitions were also declared and by the grace of God, we won five shining trophies. We left the camp after lunch and returned straight to our college memorizing those days full of joy and happiness.
