  Reunion - October 03, 2004

By:  Ihsan Ghani Khan, Kit No. 733, IH

This is what happened at the re union.

The proceedings started a little after 1000 hrs, with the recitation from the Holy Quran. It was followed by the College Anthem, which we all know is written the famous poet, Ahmed Faraz. Those who may not know it, Ahmad Faraz belongs to Kohat and his two sons, Saadi and Shibli Faraz are Kohatians- Shibli was sitting besides me in the hall on the re union day.

Fateha was offered for the departed soul of Mr. Qismat Khan the English teacher, who expired a few days back.

The Principal then delivered his address, highlighting achievements of the College during the year. It was felt and rightly so that CCK has not done very well in the sports fixtures against other colleges. The exam results appeared adequate but because of the Kohat Board, the audience were not very enthusiastic about them. The Principal did not have data of the results of the entry into the elite professional colleges. We will either have to wait for the next re union or may request Kohatians studying in these colleges (NUST, GIK, LUMS, AGHA KAHN etc.) to provide us authentic datain respect of their colleges of Kohatians making to these colleges.

SG Kohatians Association, Dr. Farrukh Hasnain then presented his report on activities of the Association. At the end of his speech, he disclosed that the Association intends starting a trophy for the best scholar of the College. Modalities will be worked out in due course of time. Then he divulged upon the services rendered by Ustad Ameer Abdullah for the College and announced award of a “Life Achievement Award” for him. It was in the form of a beautiful shield and he called upon Col. Zaka, the College first Best Sportsman to give it to him. There was a standing ovation for Ustad Jee. That done, Dr. Farrukh then called upon Mr. Iqbal Younas to give the Rs. 100000/- cheque to Ustad Jee as a token of recognition of his services.

The most moving part of the “simple but impressive” ceremony was when Ustad Jee was asked to say a few words. It took the SG a while to make the audience stop clapping. Ustad Jee could not speak for a while as he was overtaken by his emotions and just kept starring at the audience.

The principal then left the hall and Kohatians were left to talk their own affairs. They however were so keen to meet each other that the SG had to request the Sergeant- at- Arms to bring the House to order. Col Faqir Tariq had to give just one Command and all were settled.

The SG then announced holding of fresh elections for the Association. He was clever enough and had not brought along Qaiser to read out again from the Constitution to thwart his attempts of relinquishing the office. Those who were present the last time would recall his doing just that. Name of Ahmed Rasool Bangash was proposed and seconded and after a little debate was elected unanimously. For the post of the Secretary General, carefully planted Kohatians proposed, seconded and elected the undersigned.

The outgoing SG then invited the new SG to come on the stage to give the acceptance speech. I may remind you that Mr. Ahmed Rasool Bangash was not present as he was busy with his daughter’s wedding. The Acting President, Mr. Iqbal Younas then announced that there are two more posts, of Secy Finance and secy Information to be filled. The names of Shibli Faraz and IS Burki were approved by the House. They too addressed the House.

A general discussion then ensued. Following points were raised:

Most of the Kohatians did not know of the Re union and that has resulted in the poor attendance.

The SG informed that it is always the first Sunday of October and we all know it. It is also floated on the net. Initially the College used to advertise it though print media but for some years now, due to financial constraints it has been discontinued. He suggested that for the next year all the local chapters should advertise it in the media through their own resources.

Also, that we should have our representatives at all the professional Colleges and requested for sending name of such Kohatians to him.

He also suggested that the next year re union should be celebrated as the 40th year of the establishment of the College and should be organized in a befitting manner.

SUGGESTIONS ARE INVITED.

Some of the Kohatians complained that they had to face difficulties when they arrived the night before at the College. They demanded that adequate arrangements should be made for the future.

SG requested that any Kohatian wishing an overnight stay should inform the college in advance so that the College can make adequate arrangement. He also suggested formation of a liaison office at the College. Rana Sahib, better known as Chhotay Rana Sahib was elected, selected and appointed as the Liaison Secy. It is expected that these problems would be resolved in the future.

Mr. Wajid Afridi raised the much argued issue that the College should be affiliated with the Federal Board. He also suggested that we should launch a Kohatians Housing Society. Mr. Iqbal Younas informed that they are already working on a project and have located a 250 kanal piece of land on Charsadda Road. A committee comprising of Wajid Afridi, Zafar Hamdani (Lahore), Brig Mushtaq and Arbab Ijaz, with Presidents and SGs of all chapters as members was formed to chalk out a system so as to make it into a viable and sound proposal.

The never ending issue of a Kohatians Directory was also raised and nipped, but not in the bud. With an office at the College I intend working on it along with some of those who have already made substantial progress in this regard.

The SG, in the end thanked the out going office bearers for their selfless efforts in bringing Kohatians together and for keeping the Association alive.

Senior Kohatians then went to the Principal’s office for a meeting to discuss certain issues with him. Rest of the Kohatians enjoyed watching sports fixtures organised by the College. That was followed by lunch.

I hope this little detail will satisfy to some extent those who missed the occasion.

Our new G.S., Ihsan Ghani spoke beautifully of the tumultuousness of Ustadjee Amir Abdullah, when he was asked to speak on the occasion of his receiving "Life - Time Achievement Award".

I show you how Ustadjee Amir Abdullah looked liked when he stood on the lectern. He was completely overwhelmed with joy & emotions. For quite a time he could not speak anything. Tears of joy were there in his eyes.

"Waqt-e-Rukhsat woh chup Rahay Abid,
Aankh mein phelta gaya kajal"

He, in the simplest of words, thanked all & left the podium. This is how he looked like.
