Here is the narrative of what all happened in the
get together.
Well we were taken by surprise by the Karachi weather, and it seemed that Mother Nature was waiting for our function. We had everything planned and arranged in an open-air lawn, but when everything was all set for the last moment, drizzling started and continued well up to 2 o clock this morning. Luckily we had a veranda and shed available, so with few limitations, the arrangements were then shifted accordingly and the function continued. We had a formally informal chat prior to dinner, and finally at about 1045 PM, variety
program started that continued till about 0145 AM. With kind help and assistance of Mr. K P Awan of 2nd entry, some renowned artists of Karachi performed, including a couple of female singers and everybody enjoyed.
A considerable proportion of the Kohatians could not make it despite their acknowledgement and affirmation, because of heavy downpour and traffic jam. It took some of the Kohatians to reach after about 2 hours or so because of the commuters’ rush on roads and closure of few links due sudden accumulation of rainwater.
Even though, we had a good representation but because of the aforementioned reason, few friends thought that the get together might have cancelled. Nonetheless the enthusiasts did make it and we had about 50 Kohatians finally making it so (we had a confirmation of about 75). Besides General Haroon Pasha of 1st entry (who was kind enough to grace the occasion despite his very busy commitment), Brig (retd) Zamin (who happens to be the 1st Adjutant of the CCK) were amongst the prominent members. Maj Atta, Maj Hidayat, Col Tanveer were the senior most members from 1st entry besides Gen Pasha and junior most being those from 35th entry. Maj Pervaiz, Mr. K P Awan, Syed Masoom Shah Roghani, Col Asghar were the reps from 2nd entry while there were enough representations from 3rd entry onwards. Adnan Roghani (the crown prince of Masoom Shah Roghani) also sang a popular number and was much appreciated (I think Sir Masoom is trying to learn the skills from him) by the younger crowd. However the evening belonged to Mr. K P Awan whose melodious voice and his choice of Kishore’s 70s’ era songs proved to be too much even for the professionals. Dr. Iqbal Sher Burki played a beautiful Pushto folk song on his flute (he is Mashallah a good Chest Surgeon, so he was exactly knows how to even tame the exhaling wind) and was much appreciated by everyone around. He was also kind enough take a few digital snaps and I am sure these might be on the net by now.
Nadir Matin Afridi was the best performer amongst the audience, and his dances especially to the tunes of Bhangra were liked by all the folks.
Commodore Azam Khan joined us straight away from the airport since he flew in from Islamabad. That speaks volume of his spirit as a Kohatian. Khalid Salim of 23rd entry, who is Lahore based but was visiting Karachi, also joined in the party.
